Al-Shabaab Fights Against Much Needed Aid, During Ramadan

I found this article on the BBC's website to be particularly upsetting. It appears that Harakat al-Mujahideen al-Shabaab are not only backing out on an aid deal, they're actively assaulting refugees. All this during the month of Ramadan, a time when such aid could do so very much for the people of the region. I'm not particularly surprised that the Shabaab would do this. They're nuts, and they certainly do nutty things. What surprises and upsets me is the lack of response from the Muslim world regarding this crisis. Whatever their politics is concerning the Shabaab and their war with Ethiopia and peace keeping troops as well as the interim government, the average person in Somalia is NOT embroiled in that conflict and has no influence in the matter. They are the ones to suffer, and they will die in the millions if we do not act. If the Shabaab and others are worried about "Western" influence, why do we not instead send Islamic relief to the region?

If there is any cause for the Muslims today to rally behind, it should be providing stability and sustainable resources to their co-religionists abroad. Consider giving to an Islamic relief organization in the interest of shattering global perceptions and reducing the propaganda of terrorists to a mere whine.
